Can we wait til October for mornings in the 30’s please? I’m not ready for this yet. Anyone have recommendations for snow tires in 225/60R17? Probably time to start that process.

I know, right? It's 73 degrees here. I should have worn a sweater today.

Holy cow you’re in deep winter already. Where in the states are you? I see a Vermont plate on the left. I mean if it’s not even October yet, how bad does it get over there when true winter kicks in?
And spring and fall are totally gone due to the planet going to hell. They both last for like a week tops now. That’s our future I’m afraid.

Everyone’s got opinions on snow tires. I know there are many differences, but in my experience, they all greatly improve snow traction over non-snow tires. And most recently I had a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin on my E46 wagon, and I loved them - not for the snow traction, which of course was “good.” But the fact that they handled reasonably well and weren’t super loud. I used to dread putting on my snows because the car got loud and handling got sloppy. Not so with the Michelins I had. They came with the car on a separate set of wheels, so I have no idea what they would have cost new.
That’s my 2 cents.

I’m hitting the point where I’m ready for temps to dive. Once I can’t swim anymore I’m pretty much ready for the rinks to freeze
Also if available I recommend Blizzaks

ET 0:004 ? That tell you how long your drive has been?
Also to functionoverfashion’s point, I have snow tires I really like and cant even remember what they are. I’ve had blizzaks and liked them too.

You might be the only person in Santa Fe running snow tires this winter.

New Mexico. That’s actually a turquoise NM centennial plate:
They are the most common here, with the chili peppers a close second:
The standard plates are yellow, but most car owners
in my town seem to opt for one of the others
The Fusion (Mondeo) in front of me was a rental with Colorado plates. Colorado is one of the few US states that makes fleet vehicles wear a plate distinctly different than the private vehicle
plate.
A standard Colorado plate -the same but green:
I’m in a high-elevation desert (2.3 km at my house
)
, so it gets cold here at night, but it also tends to warm up in the day. Average daily temp in winter is right around 0 C from December to February. Not uncommon for it get to -10 at night in the winter but also rare that it stays below freezing in the afternoon. The biggest thing here is that while it is dry, the mountains can cause huge snow storms to come out of nowhere. And yeah I agree it seems like climate change has erased spring and fall from the calendar.

I can’t wait until our outdoor rink opens up. They were testing the scoreboard this week. I want to get my son back into hockey lessons (selfishly I just want to go skate).

Yeah its a timer. It blinks every hour. I like it - that display can be cycled through MPG’s and remaining range as well.

Yeah. But I just moved here from South Texas, so I’m not counting on my Subaru being able to magically save me with AWD. Plus I have a set of steelies just sitting around in my back yard so why not.

I miss San Antonio where I used to live right now.

Sounds like a good use for the steelies. A set of all-seasons would get through anything in Santa Fe or the valley , even without AWD. It won’t usually snow that often, or that much , and when it does much of it will be melted by noon unless you’re really up on the mountain.
By the way, I really miss fall up north. We’re finally done with the oppressive heat down S outh, but we just don’t get the crisp mornings, cool afternoons and gradual change of the leaves like what happens north of Socorro. This time of the year is low 60' s in the mornings and low 90's to high 80's in the afternoon. I’m looking forward to November, as it is the best month of the year in Southern NM..

True, but even this morning I’m pretty sure my car kicked the AC on.

November was always my favorite in San Antonio as well. I’ve also spent Thanksgiving in Phoenix a few times and it is lovely there at that time of year. I’m actually not in Santa Fe but about an hour west over by the Valles Caldera. I just say Santa Fe because its the only thing of close that
people outside of NM have heard of.
I’m not worried as much about town as getting through the Jemez and up and down from ski hills.

NC - it was upper sixties this morning and then after my body heat got in the car, the AC came on about 10 minutes into my drive.

Are blizzaks still the go-to? I’m just curious. I moved from NY 7 years ago and I had blizzaks on both of my cars in the winter. I have no need for snow tires in Atlanta. Im a little surprised no one now has entered with something better. Or are they on their 3rd version or something?
